Gift ideas for a better life

What do you get for the person who has everything?  Not something they need, but something they didn't even know would make their life so. much. better!

Tis the season for a crazy number of catalogs to show up in the mailbox for stores we've never shopped at, and sometimes never even heard of.  But since I'm a sucker for tools and gadgets, I decided to peruse the Sharper Image catalog and see what strange gizmos they have this year.

I'm sure you never thought of Sharper Image as an Ergonomics store.  But Lifestyle Ergonomics is all about making life easier, more comfortable or just more efficient; most of the things in this catalog actually fit that bill.

Here're my thoughts on a few of the items that just may show up under the tree this year (don't spill the beans to my family!).

For the Wine Lover

The Rechargeable wine Opener with Foil Cutter ($60)

I actually own this and LOVE it.  Living in the wine country, I do understand the ceremonial aspect of uncorking a bottle of wine, but this handy little number quickly opens a bottle with zero manual effort (making it good for grandma too!) and no chances of pokes or pinches by the corkscrew.  The blue LED lights look cool too, if you're into that.

And... because I'm just like you, I took the liberty to find you similar product on Amazon Prime.  I can't vouch for the quality of this brand, but this one by Secura is a third of the price!

For the Gardener

The Stress Less Potted Plant Mover ($150)

Attempting to move a large potted plant is a bad bad idea.  Bending that far down to pick up a heavy load that has no real handles, is just asking for a back injury.  Not to mention you', or the poor soul you ask to help you, will likely smash your finger under the pot at some point.  I'd suggest this pot mover to do the dirty work for you.  It can hold up to 175 lbs and varying pot heights (8" to 30" tall).  Its like a dolly (aka hand truck), but has a top grabber to hold on tight to your precious greenery.

Again, here's a similar product on Amazon Prime for only $34.  Sorry Sharper Image, but part of an Ergonomic Lifestyle is ease and usability - Amazon Prime kinda has that nailed.

For the Reader-in-Bed

The Laptop and Tablet Tray with Built-in Charger ($100)

By the end of the day, the last thing your hands need is to hold a (relatively) heavy e-reader, phone, or tablet while you wind down and catch up on your reading in bed.  This over-the-lap tray positions the screens at the perfect angle for your neck to stay relaxed while you read hands-free.  Don't forget to use the blue-light-reducer on your device though, don't want to mess with your sleep - that would be very non-ergonomic!

Doesn't look like Amazon Prime offers one with a lamp and charger.

For the Pedicure Person

At Home Pedicure Assistant ($60)

Unless your a Cirque de Soleil acrobat, painting your own toe nails usually leads to cramped neck muscles, which often leads to a botched up paint job. This angled stand does all of the work for you!  Except the painting part. It even has an LED light and a magnifier to get that salon-perfect touch.

Same price on Amazon Prime.  Here's the link if you want your free 2-day shipping.
