Ergo Chair for Home Use - PART II

In a previous post, I gave my recommendations for a home office ergonomic chair. I focused on good chairs that are less than $500. In this PART II post, I’ll share my list of recommendations if you’re able to spend a bit more.

They are listed here in order of cost, not necessarily of preference. They are all great chairs and have the important adjustment features that I listed in the last post, but some have some extra special features that make these chairs stand out (and make them more expensive).

Office Master OM5

Office Master OM5

Office Master OM5 ($530-$560 depending on the arms) - Unique backrest design that doesn't lock into a position, but has weight-balanced, adjustable tension system where the backrest 'moves with you'. You can lean back without the seatpan tilting backwards, so your feet always stay flat on the floor. The armrests are special and more movable (if you choose the 5-way or 6-way adjustable arms). You can choose chrome or black frame and finishes and a variety of fabric or mesh upholstery.

Office Master Truly 628

Office Master Truly 628, ($560-$610 depending on the arms) - If you read the PART I of this post, you already know about the Truly 608. This is its cousin, the 628 - it looks the same as the Truly 608 but has the cool backrest movement of the OM5 (see above); it is like the best of the Truly and the OM5 put together. You can choose chrome or black frame and finishing and there is a large variety of fabric and mesh upholstery.

Steelcase Leap

Steelcase Leap

Steelcase Leap ($1000) - This chair has been around for about 20 years, and is still a really good design. It has some of the most functional armrests around - they can adjust in close for petite statures. Of course there are different fabric and frame color options. This is a great design and the quality holds up over the years.

Steelcase Gesture

Steelcase Gesture ($1200) - I think this is my favorite chair of all because of the most amazingly adjustable armrests. It also has a 'smart' backrest that moves with you (same idea with the OM5) and a flexible seat pan frame that allows you to sit in different positions without the seat frame pressing into your legs. As with all of these chairs, you can choose the fabric and frame color that you like.

Herman Miller Embody

Herman Miller Embody ($1600) - And finally, we have the Rolls Royce of the ergo chair world. This chair is a bit of a status symbol and has a very unique look. The design is good, it hits all of the ergonomics marks, but it is just more than anyone really needs. It makes my list because some people want the best of the best and this just may be it (if the look is your cup of tea). The only person that I’ve ever felt comfortable recommending it to was the GM of a Major League Baseball team, and he loves it! Important note - I don't think this is a good choice for a woman because the arms don't come in close enough. Naturally, you can get it in different colors.

If you want to talk more about these chairs or your specific needs, email me or schedule a virtual ergonomics evaluation.
